Abstract |
The National Parks and Wildlife Service Park Operation Areas is a polygon layer that includes the 37 Areas that were finalised in October 2017. They will officially be adopted in December 2017. The boundaries denote the NPWS estate and heritage sites that are managed locally by each Area. NPWS staff that work in various work locations in each of the 37 Areas report to an Area Manager who in turn reports to a Branch Director. There are eight administration branches for the State. |

The Areas layer was created by dividing up the existing NPWS Branches layer which was originally built from a NSW polygon layer. The boundaries were edited many times over the following two years from input by Directors. The boundaries follow existing admin boundaries, roads, LGAs and at time watercourses. Where possible reserves or potential reserves were included wholly on one side of the boundary to assist in cleaner reporting. Obviously for the larger parks along the Great Dividing Range in particular, this was not possible as management has to consider road access. |
