Abstract |
Native vegetation composite map of Dry Lake, Gunbar, Hay, Moggumbil, One Tree and Oxley 1: 100 000 map sheets. Native vegetation, including forest, woodland and grass/forbland assemblages, is described and mapped. Spatial delineation of map units is accomplished using stereoscopic air photo interpretation assisted by satellite imagery. Floristic composition of map units is based on analysed, plot-based floristic data collected at 748 plots (20 by 20 metres) using a random stratified sampling procedure. (VIS_ID 899) |

Lineage |
The interpretation of aerial photography was the principle method used to delineate native vegetation pattern (canopy species) boundaries. This method of air photo interpretation is based on the linking of changes in colour, tone and texture, evident in aerial photography, to a particular vegetation pattern (canopy species). Boundaries are then drawn to delineate the pattern (canopy species) to form polygons (Gunn et al. 1988). The most recent 1:50 000 scale colour aerial photographs, which were taken in December 1997, were viewed and interpreted stereoscopically. All native vegetation communities, including woody, non woody and modified communities, together with other features, such as rivers, cropping areas and urban areas were identified and mapped. The dominant species occupying the tallest, mid and lower strata were recorded. Crown densities of less than 5%, were coded as isolated individuals or emergent. |
