Title

Greater Sydney South Predictive Habitat Mapping

Abstract

Habitat maps (presence-absence models, presence-only models or habitat maps derived directly from vegetation mapping) were developed using ArcView for fauna of conservation concern and priority pest species. This included threatened (Threatened Species Conservation Act), declining and culturally significant species as well as introduced fauna. These have been widely reviewed by fauna experts, naturalists, academics and land managers in the area. These maps should be viewed in conjunction with Volumes 1 and 2 of the report series for this project.

Study Area extends from Wollongong LGA in the south east, west to Blue Mountains and Kanangra-Boyd NPs, and includes the Warragamba, Woronora and Blue Mountains Special Areas, plus parts of the southern Cumberland Plain

File names for each grid are the common name for each species (as per the Atlas of NSW Wildlife), abbreviated if necessary to 13 characters.

Lineage

ESRI GRID files of the habitat for the Species of Conservation Concern and Priority Pest Species.

  • Habitat maps are separated into fauna groups: Frogs, Reptiles, Diurnal Birds, Nocturnal Birds, Terrestrial Mammals, Arboreal Mammals, Bats and Pests

  • Each species has been identified by 13 character abbreviation (if necessary) of its common name. Common names are per the Atlas of NSW Wildlife. Full common names and scientific names are given in an excel file accompanying each fauna group. This file also specifies what type of map has been presented.

  • Maps are either derived from presence-absence models, presence-only models or are ‘habitat maps’ derived directly from vegetation mapping.

  • There is one grid for each species. This is the final model (or habitat map), masked of cleared land, water or urban areas where appropriate. This is generally the most suitable map for use.

  • In some instances the original (unmasked) model may the most appropriate. To obtain a copy of this grid, please contact the project coordinators (above)

  • To display only high quality habitat for a species, see Table 19 in Volume One: Background Report. This table gives the cut-off value for high quality habitat for each species.
