Goonoowigal State Conservation Area Vegetation 2008 VIS_ID 4732

Goonoowigal State Conservation Area vegetation mapping was undertaken by Dr John T. Hunter in 2008 by contract for the NPWS Northern Tableland Region. Goonoowigall SCA lies approximately 10 km south east of Inverell within the Nandewar Bioregion and the North Western Slopes Botanical District. The reserve contains approximately 1037 ha of lands.

The vegetation of Goonoowigall State Conservation Area is described and mapped (scale 1:50 000). Eight communities are defined based on classification (Kulczynski association). These eight communities were mapped based on ground truthing, air photo interpretation and landform. Much of the reserve is characterised by Callitris endlicheri, Angophora floribunda, Eucalyptus prava and Eucalyptus bridgesiana with shrub layer of Leucopogon muticus, Leptospermum brevipes, Brachyloma daphnoides and Acacia neriifolia and a herb layer of Cheilanthes sieberi, Cymbopogon refractus, Aristida ramosa, Microlaena stipoides and Pomax umbellata.
