Abstract |
CRAFTI stands for Comprehensive Regional Assessment Aerial Photograph Interpretation. In response to the National Forest Policy Statement, CRAFTI was designed as part of the CRA to provide raw data on growth stage and disturbance information of all Eucalypt forest and floristics over all or some defined regions as appropriate. This information was intended to contribute to 'old growth' assessments and also a floristics layer, which were required to satisfy aspects of the Regional Forest Agreement process. VIS_ID 4141 |

Lineage |
This project involves the mapping of forest and natural landscape features primarily through the technique of interpreting and delineating attribute classes on 1:25,000 scale aerial photography by experienced aerial photograph interpreters using transparent overlays followed by digital capture of the mapped data. 1:25,000 scale colour photography from the Land Information Centre was used for the project. 1:25 000 colour photos provide just enough detail to recognise the features of the growth stages in most forest types whilst enabling large areas to be covered quickly. Variation in photo scale, photo date, and especially photo quality makes it necessary to recalibrate photo identification procedures for each block of photography. For the Crookwell sheet, recent 1:25,000 were not available so it was necessary to use 1:50,000 scale. Existing mapping was provided as support for interpreters. This included forest type or similar vegetation cover maps, BOGMP photo overlays and floristic site information. In addition, other information was available in the form of plot data that was compiled by the NPWS CRA unit and the Project Co-ordinators. |
