Resource Dataset Details

Abstract:   Initially part of Sunny Corner SF , Eusdale NR was mapped by NSW State Forests prior to ownership by NPWS. Additional gaps in the vegetation mapping have been filled by local NPWS staff using State Forest RN17 typing and local knowledge to create a new version in 2009. An addition to Eusdale " Stony Creek" was subsequently mapped by Raymond Mjadwesch in 2011. In mapping the addition Mjadwesch updated the typing to correlate the vegetation mapping across the entire reserve with Keith (2004) Classes. The Keith Classes were revised by NPWS staff in 2013 and additional attributes about the composition of the understorey included as field "SHRB_GRASS" to assist with fire planning. For further information on individual mapping see dataset history. VIS_ID 3982

Data Quality

Lineage:   Hardcopy maps of Sunny Corner State Forest -Grabhams Section were provided by State Forests NSW Bathurst office. Date of mapping and methods are not known but likely to be from intensive ground traverses and air photo interpretation circa 1950s using the methodology and typing described for forest typing in RN17 (FCNSW 1989). Hardcopy maps were scanned and warped for digitising in ArcView 3.3 by NPWS. Positional accuracy estimated at 100m. Photocopies of original maps located in Cabinet 8 of OEH office in Wingewarra St Dubbo. NPWS Bathurst Office generated a new version of the mapping with local amendments in 2009. An addition to Eusdale " Stony Creek" was subsequently mapped by Raymond Mjadwesch in 2011. 6 vegetation communities were identified, Field traverses assessing vegetation type based on Vegetation Classes described by Keith (2004). Boundaries transcribed onto hardcopy topographic maps. Air photo interpretation was not undertaken. Mjadwesch updated the nomenculature and correlated the vegetation typing across the entire reserve to NSW Classes (Keith 2004). NPWS Bathurst and Dubbo staff revised the vegetation Classes and Formations in 2013 during preparation of the Reserve Fire Management Strategy. An addendum was added to the Mjadwesch (2011) report. The predominant understorey composition is grassy, however the best matched Class is in a shrubby formation. To allow an accurate fire plan to be generated, the class has been removed from the dataset and just the formation assigned. A new field "Shrb_grass" was added to separate shrubby and grassy polygons in the same vegetation type. Some polygons were split in ArcMap 9.3 based on ground truthing and on-screen interpretation of ADS imagery. Old species name "Eucalyptus maculosa" was changed to E. mannifera.
