Abstract

DEC (2004) The Native Vegetation and Threatened Species of the City of Wagga Wagga. Floristic sampling of 172 survey sites, combined with data from the Southern CRA Forest Ecosystem Classification and Mapping Project (30 sites) and data from shires to the north-east of Wagga Wagga (Junee, Cootamundra, Gundagai, Harden and Young). A classification analysis was conducted using the combined datasets. Based on this analysis and additional field traverses, eighteen vegetation communities were identified. Vegetation communities were mapped according to a stratification of lithology, rainfall and temperature. Maps were checked against landsat images and ground truthing. VIS_ID 1560

Lineage

Full floristic sampling was undertaken in 172 survey sites using standard protocols. The data collected was combined with a dataset collected for the

Forest Ecosystem Classification and Mapping Project for the Southern CRA

Region and another set collected within shires to the north-east of Wagga Wagga (Junee, Cootamundra, Gundagai, Harden and Young). A classification analysis was conducted using the combined datasets. Interpretation of this

classification combined with additional field observations resulted in the

identification of 18 vegetation communities within Wagga Wagga.

The pre-clearing distribution of each vegetation community was then modelled using a combination of field observations and determining relationships, if any, between soil landscapes and vegetation. The extant distribution of types was then modelled by overlaying the M305 woody/nonwoody vegetation cover model with the pre-clearing models.
